What do Drake, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars and Luke Mulholland have in common?

...they all have a song on the Billboard Top 40

North American Modern Rock EP

UK Classic Rock EP

Luke Mulholland recognized, at an early age, that his destiny would be defined by the guitar and music. While others may go on life journeys, Luke knew that his would be a real “odyssey,” full of adventure, risks and rewards.

Young pop rock, indie artist Luke Mulholland, of Mulholland Drive, will be receiving a distinguished recording artist award from Howard Rosen promotions, long time, renown radio promoters as the most Successful charting Indie Act in the company’s history (possibly the music industry’s history).  Luke, a Toronto born and raised, now American Citizen, launched a 5 Song EP on 2017 and over the past  24 months each song Released has charted in the top 40 (4) and top 50(1) and Mulholland Drive has been on the media base charts for 24 months. “We have never had a indie act have this kind of success at radio on the charts”, commented long time radio song promoter president Howard Rosen. “Each song we release climbs the charts, punching up against heavy hitting label artists and with no marketing budget and on the strength of each track has consistently broken the top 40 for the last connective 4 singles”, added Mr. Rosen

Luke’s unique hybrid of guitar infused pop rock and distinctive vocals seems to resonant with both younger millennials and baby boomers, perhaps longing for some variety and break from more formula driven Hip Hop and pop sounds. Luke is a guitar prodigy, born and raised in the one of the worlds music hotbeds Toronto, where he was schooled in classical and electric guitar, eventually performed alongside Guitar Icon Jeff Healy and, appearing on local rock radio Q107, winning song writing awards and opening for Bon Jovi in grade 11.  Luke then attended and graduated from the prestigious Berklee Music college in Boston with a song writing degree and established a home base in Los Angeles and over 5 years toured extensively with his own headlining club shows and opening for older classic rock legends such as Bon Jovi, Santana, Dickie Betts and Great Southern, Blues Traveler, Marshall Tucker Band, Fabulous Thunderbirds and many others. Luke worked with LA producers Stengaard and Fingazz to refine his classic rock blues songs into a guitar infuse pop rock sound and launched his 5 song EP, while being signed to the Independent label, Castle Hill Records. After half a decade on being on the road, Luke landed 2 songs for the 2016 Movie Heaven is Real (starring Greg Kinear), a well as songs for Radio and ESPN on line.  With his success in Film and radio, Luke took a year off and returned to Berklee in 2019, where he is completing his masters in Film scoring this June. All the while he, EP has been charting hit after hit without the support of touring or a major label budget, all on the strength of the tracks and resonance with the listener.

THE ODYSSEY

Chapter One of Luke’s odyssey began at age fourteen when Luke formed his first band, “Mulholland Drive,” and started performing at Healey’s, the music home of Canadian guitar legend Jeff Healey. Impressed with Luke’s talent, Jeff left the club door open, giving Luke the opportunity to spotlight with the best of Canadian rock including, among others; April Wine, Goddo, Trooper and Pat Travers. This career chapter concluded with a bang when, at the age of sixteen, Luke won the Q107 rock song contest grand prize –opening for Bon Jovi in front of 18,000 people at the Air Canada Centre.

Chapter Two has Luke attending Boston’s Berklee College of Music. In 2007, he formed “The Luke Mulholland Band,” and played hundreds of gigs in the both as headliners and openers for rock gods like Carlos Santana, Blues Traveler, Blue Oyster Cult, Johnny Winter and Marshall Tucker Band to name a few. The biggest opportunity was a major tour of the Northeastern and Midwestern US opening for Dickey Betts, co-founder of The Allman Brothers Band, with whom Luke would routinely jam on stage. While Luke was still earning his college degree, the band was also nominated for Best Blues-Rock Act at the 2009 Boston Music Awards.

Chapter Three opens in 2012, when Luke – now a music college graduate – headed to Los Angeles. He continued to play countless shows with “The Luke Mulholland Band,” landed two songs in Sony’s major motion picture Heaven is for Real, and sold jingles for commercials while doing guitar session work. Eventually, Luke noticed a trend in pop music emerging, where the guitar was returning to its prominence in well-written songs. Inspired by this, he began to combine the feel of the pop charts with his own “unique, classic, guitar-rock infusion”. Like in any odyssey, Luke met his own demons and monsters. Ironically, it was his music that had led him to the shore of the city of angels, only to discover those angels were really Sirens luring him to the rocks of substance abuse. However, throughout this “dark ages,” as he puts it, he learned the true value of family and friends, who helped him drown out the Siren song with the sound of his guitar.

Chapter Four of Luke’s odyssey is still being written but it is staged to end on his highest peak so far. The darkness has been gone for quite some time now and music is back to being Luke’s full, life quest. In late 2014, Luke was introduced to Grammy award winning producer, Peter Stengaard and together, they produced an EP full of Luke’s new, guitar-infused, signature pop-rock sound. Hot off the tracks of the new EP, Luke reformed “Mulholland Drive,” and is gearing up to tour behind a radio campaign that anticipates that Luke and the band will become a worldwide phenomenon. The Mulholland Odyssey now continues with Luke firmly in control and his music and sound are on course, headed for global waters.
